St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN):  Speaking to WINN, Alvaro Connor of Makana Ferry Services revealed plans to increase ferry services between islands, including a connection to Anguilla for the 50th hosting of its Summer Festival.

The inverse is true for the upcoming summer events in the Federation, which will further connect people from Anguilla and St. Maarten to the Nevis Culturama 50, Nevis Mango Festival, and Restaurant Week in St. Kitts.

Connor told WINN that Makana is looking to implement the new schedule from July 01, 2024. Additionally, the ferry service is looking to add a Saturday trip to St. Kitts, making shorter weekend trips possible for patrons.

Regional heads of government have continued the call and the work on expanding affordable intra-regional travel options to stimulate the region’s economies and foster growth independent of international people’s movement into the Caribbean.

Intraregional travel continues to be a challenge for many islands, and with the increase of ferry services connecting closer islands, interconnectivity is improving.

Makana Ferry Services is actively collaborating with various island authorities, working diligently to iron out the details and ensure a seamless and efficient operation of the increased ferry services.

Depending on the island patrons travel to on Makana, roundtrip tickets range from US$148 to US$266 plus a departure fee when travelling from St. Kitts.

The M/V Makana has been in operation for the past 30 years, providing intra-regional travel opportunities to various destinations, including St. Maarten, Anguilla, Saba and St. Eustatius and started service to St. Kitts and Nevis in October 2022
