St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): A historic debut unfolded on July 10, 2024, for the first West Indies Cricketer from St. Kitts, Mikyle Louis.

West Indies on July 08 announced its lineup for its first Test against England at Lord’s Cricket Ground.

The twenty-three-year-old, Louis is the only debutant named in the West Indies Starting 11.

West Indies Skipper- Kraigg Brathwaite spoke about Mikyle’s call to the West Indies at a Press Conference ahead of the first Test.

He said, “You know, the four-day, last season gone, obviously he did extremely well with the bat. He batted long as well, he batted for long periods [and] he showed a lot of fight. He puts away the ball when it’s a bad ball.”

Brathwaite added, “He’s a nice guy, very joyful spirit. I know he’ll do extremely well playing international cricket for many years. But my advice to all the younger boys in the group, and like Mikyle making his debut, don’t just aspire to play for West Indies as West Indies’ first Kittitian, be the first to score 30-hundreds. You got to think big, don’t think too small and I think he’ll do extremely well.”

Mikyle Louis speaking ahead of his debut Test series, stated “It’s been a long journey. I worked really hard leading up to this. Obviously, I am elated. I am happy to be here. I am excited to go out there and perform.”

With a terrific first-class season, scoring 682 runs in the Caribbean Regional Cricket Championship, Mikyle expressed confidence that he will maintain his form in the Test series against England.

“Well, what worked for me in the First Class season was my work ethic. I was training really hard and I wasn’t leaving anything to chance. I was putting a lot of anything in the gym. I am doing the same thing here. So I am hoping for the same results.”

Louis shared that he has a strong support system in the Kittitian people, who are very happy and proud about his selection to the West Indies. The young cricketer hopes to represent the country well.

Louis gave credit to his family, he said they gave him the push to be great, not being subjected to work an eight-to-four job or paying bills, but more so focused on cricket training.

Louis’ mother, regarded as one of the biggest supporters of West Indies cricket travelled to England to support the team. Speaking of his mom, Mikyle stated, “Honestly, she’s an angel and there isn’t anything she wouldn’t do for me. When I was injured, she massaged me and days when I finished training late, she would cook for me and you know, she gave the world to us.”

About two weeks after Mikyle’s selection, his older brother, Jeremiah Louis was also called to the West Indies. The brothers are both on the Test Squad to England.

West Indies XI for the first Test against England includes Kraigg Brathwaite (c), Mikyle Louis, Kirk McKenzie, Alick Athanaze, Kavem Hodge, Jason Holder, Joshua da Silva (wk), Gudakesh Motie, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph and Jayden Seales.
