St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): To date, more than eight million EC dollars have been disbursed in severance payments on Nevis.
Premier Mark Brantley made that disclosure during his May 25 press conference at Pinney’s Estate where he provided some numbers for persons who have been approved for a severance payment.
“Thus far, the monies paid out to workers on Nevis is $8,295,968.46. Fifty-six persons at Nisbet Plantation applied and 56 were approved. At Paradise Hotel, 24 applied and 24 were approved. Bananas Restaurant, 22 applied and 22 have been approved.
For the Four Seasons Resort, 415 persons applied, and thus far, 373 were approved. That means that there are 42 still applications pending.”
Premier Brantley said the disbursement of severance monies has been difficult as the Severance Payments Fund is inadequate to fund the level of demand.
“The Federal Government has had to find the resources since they are the one who deals with severance, to satisfy these claims and that too has led to some delay.”
According to Premier Brantley, 805 persons applied for severance on Nevis, and 704 have been approved to date, with 88 still pending.
