St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The multi-purpose centre at the Brown Hill Wesleyan Holiness Church was renamed in honour of the Late Reverend Hazel M. Harris on Sunday, September 18, 2022.
Reverend Ron Daniel, Pastor of the Brown Hill Wesleyan Holiness Church confirmed the renaming of the facility as the Hazel M. Harris Multi-purpose Centre. It was officially unveiled by Chief Deacon Ralph Ottley.
In attendance at the ceremony was family members of Reverend Harris, as well as Juniour Minister of Education in the Nevis Island Administration the Hon. Troy Liburd. The sign was created by Mr. Carl Claxton.
Hazel M. Harris Multi Purpose Centre is the home of the Brown Hill Wesleyan REACH Institute where individuals are given an opportunity to learn various subjects free of cost by voluntary tutors. Principles of Business is being taught by Serena Browne, Principles of Accounts by Dwane Hendrickson, English by Mario Phillip and Agriculture Science by Justin Moses.
Reverend Daniel disclosed that classes have reached their maximum limits for the year. As informed by Reverend Daniel, the building has long served as an academic space, dating back to 41 years ago.
He said “The building used to house the Pre School that was founded by Rev Harris back in 1981. She served as head of the School from 1981 to 2006 and the school was responsible for moulding hundreds of students over the years and was the second Pre School on the island. Rev Harris also served for 30 years as the Pastor of the Brown Hill Church from 1971 to 2001 and remained a member of the church until her death in 2020.”
Daniel remembers the Late Reverend Harris as “a trailblazer, a teacher, a truth teller and a transformational leader.”
