St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN) – Fifteen students will be chosen at the completion of the St Kitts and Nevis National Essay competition to attend the Dubai Expo next year.
The competition will be opened to all residents of the twin-island Federation between the ages of 15 and 19-years-old. The theme of the essay competition is Food, Agriculture and Livelihoods, and the essays should seek to answer the question “How Do We Sustainably Grow Food to Meet Future Demands?” in 1,500 and 2,000 words.
Minister of Youth Empowerment, the Honourable Jonel Powell, encouraged all St. Kitts and Nevis youth between the ages of 15-19 to grasp the opportunity.
“I did give a commitment that I would look into the possibility of taking a group of young people to Dubai to witness the Dubai EXPO 2020 that ends in March [2022],” said Minister Powell during an interview on Island Tea on Tuesday (November 30).
Then on Wednesday at the National Assembly, Minister Powell confirmed the plans.
“My Ministry, in cooperation with corporate partners, will therefore send 15 young persons from across the Federation to experience the Dubai EXPO 2020. To allow for fairness and transparency in the selection of who will be attending, a nationwide essay competition will be launched effective today (Wednesday, December 1).”
The Minister also welcomed sponsorship from businesses and local entities interested in sponsoring the 15 young people.
“Anybody, you could be a business, it could be personal, you are welcome, we invite you to chip in and help to sponsor a kid.”
Interested participants can submit their essays via email to the Department of Youth Empowerment at youth@gov.kn or submit in hard copy to Valencia Syder, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Culture on the 3rd Floor of the Cable Building on Cayon Street, Basseterre, St. Kitts. On Nevis, submissions can be made at the Division of Youth.
The deadline for submissions is the close of business day on Friday, January 07, 2022.
