St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN)—The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) of St. Kitts and Nevis clarified that it has not issued any alerts about volcanic activity at Mt. Liamuiga and that there is no evidence the volcano is active.

The official update was released on September 29, 2026, in response to unverified messages circulating publicly about observations of steam rising from the mountain.

According to the statement shared by NEMA, there is currently no active volcanic threat, and the rumours about steam are unsubstantiated by current scientific data.

NEMA said it continues to monitor the volcano closely and thanked proactive citizens who reached out with safety concerns.

Authorities urge residents and visitors to remain calm and rely only on official information channels, not social media speculation.

Residents who notice any actual environmental changes around the volcano are advised to report them directly. Reports can be submitted by calling or messaging NEMA at 466-5100 if anyone observes unusual steam vents, strange sulfurous smells, or low audible rumblings.
