St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN)—Tropical Storm Dolly has weakened into an open tropical wave, meaning it is no longer an organised tropical cyclone.
However, its remnants are moving quickly toward the Leeward Islands and will begin bringing inclement weather to St. Kitts and Nevis starting late Saturday through Sunday.
The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service has noted that the overall risk level for severe winds is low, but the system’s moisture will still deliver noticeable impacts.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) warned citizens and residents to avoid parking in waterways or ghauts due to the expected weekend weather conditions.
The primary concern is heavy downpours. While much of the rain will be beneficial to recent dry conditions across the Caribbean, locally heavy downpours could lead to isolated flash flooding, especially in hilly or higher terrain.
While sustained tropical storm-force winds are no longer anticipated, the tropical wave is expected to trigger gusty squalls ranging from 25 to 40 mph during heavier showers.
Seas will become increasingly rough and hazardous as the remnants cross the island chain. Small craft operators and swimmers should exercise extreme caution.
There are currently no coastal tropical storm watches or warnings in effect for St. Kitts and Nevis.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local channels for updates and keep an eye on changing sky conditions over the weekend.
