Nevis Abattoir Department hosts annual Christmas Promotion

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The Abattoir Division of the Nevis Agriculture Department is currently taking orders for their annual Christmas promotion.

According to the Manager, Mr Gary Griffin, the Abattoir will have on sale a variety of meat kinds, which includes a new special for 2022.

“This year for our Christmas promotion we will be promoting smoked hams, smoked beef, smoked chicken, smoked pork ribs; and the new addition this year is rotisserie chicken.

“We have started taking orders already. We have some orders in already and we have to send some flyers out to receive some more.

The Abattoir manager also stated that suckling pigs will be made available for sale upon request.

“We sell suckling pigs on request for anyone who [decides] to do a barbecue or something like that; as well as, we do the regular pork. We do chops and we do dice and if someone wants a leg to bake for Christmas, that is available too. Whatever people want, just make a request, it will be prepared for you.”

Griffin said he has high expectations for the sale this year, as the promotion has been growing steadily over the years.

“We’re actually preparing for a much bigger sale this year. Last year we did like 300 hundred to about 400. We are looking to prepare over 400 this year and make sure that we have extras; because, what you will find is that even though we have the orders, when customers come, they want to have an extra one or an extra two so we are looking to go over the hill, like about 450 to 475.”

The Abattoir manager said preparation began in August 2022 and throughout the month of November, they have been doing cooking and processing which will continue into December. However, Griffin encouraged interested individuals to place their orders early and avoid the rush. He explained that placing orders early is important to the preparation process.

“Deadline for orders will be December 9th and this will give us enough time to do the preparation because these [things] go through a preparation phase which is about a week. So, that will give us enough time so that we can get the amount of products out.”
