St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN)ββIn an open letter to the people of Nevis, the Premier of Nevis, Hon. Mark Brantley, underscored the critical need for innovation to drive the island’s future growth.β
Having served since 2007 and as Premier since 2017, he acknowledged the public’s enduring trust and reiterated his commitment to Nevis’s advancement.
The Premier reflected on the challenges faced, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting his cabinet’s salary cuts and his 21-month unpaid tenure as a demonstration of shared sacrifice and leadership in the face of adversity.
Brantley emphasised that Nevis is at a pivotal developmental crossroads, facing increasing demands for essential services and infrastructure from a growing workforce and returning graduates.
He emphasised that a “business as usual” approach is unsustainable, advocating instead for bold innovation inspired by successful nations such as Singapore, the UAE, and Rwanda.
To this end, Brantley called for harnessing Nevis’s intellectual capital, both at home and within its diaspora, to create new pathways for development and reverse the historic “brain drain.”
Acknowledging the delicate balance between preserving Nevis’s cherished tranquillity and embracing necessary progress, the Premier urged Nevisians to channel their “indefatigable spirit” to build a new future.
He encouraged embracing transformative ideas that create opportunities for all, ensuring that development translates into progress without displacement.
Brantley concluded by calling for collective prayer, work, and belief in the promise of Nevis, emphasising that building upon the past, rather than erasing it, is key to a prosperous future.
