New Parade route and return of performance stage for Culturama 50

by Eulana Weekes

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Mowava Liburd, Central Committee member and Senior Parade Chairperson for Nevis Culturama Festival 50 said revellers should expect changes to the Senior Street Parade route.

“No more loops around Charlestown,” she said, explaining that the parade will begin on the outskirts of the city. There will also be a return of the stage performances for Culturama 50.

“This year, we’re starting the parade from the Valumart area. So no more loops around the town. We’re starting from Valumart and we’re bringing back the stage this year. the stage performance this year.

Quite a few people missed the stage. So we’re gonna have the stage performance at the waterfront; and we have the normal three judging points at Valumart, Villa Grounds and at the stage area.”

The Senior Parade Chairperson advised troupes and mas bands to be in line for the start of the parade at noon on August 06th. Any troupe that missed their spot will have to join in at the back, which means they will miss their initially assigned band.

” We want to start on time this year, not an hour late… so everyone can go straight into the last lap and enjoy the last part of Culturama. So, once a troupe is in the first position and they’re not there, then we will continue and the second troupe would be leading the parade and so forth. That is how we have that organized. So, we won’t be waiting for any troupes this year. And we have certain things in place so that if they don’t conduct themselves in an orderly manner, or listen to the subcommittee members in terms of the flow of the parade, then they will be disqualified.”

Meanwhile, the Culturama Committee is seeking interested persons to participate in the Culturama 50 Street Parade as Parade Marshals!

Their roles “would be critical in ensuring the effective pacing of the parade while ensuring the safety of revellers and spectators.”

Parade Marshalls will be compensated for their services.
