Basseterre, St. Kitts: Persons who met the eligibility requirements stated by the Ministry of Education to be trained as teachers, will attend an opening ceremony for pre-service training on Monday, July 13 at 9:00 am at the Antioch Baptist Church Conference Room.
The Pre-Service Training affords prospective teachers a realistic preview of the profession prior to engaging in actual classroom teaching.
According to Deputy Chief Education Officer Mr. Francil Morris, each prospective teacher will sit an English and Math proficiency test which will be administered on Monday afternoon. Following this test training will resume on Tuesday, July 14th until Friday, July 24th.
Subsequent to the completion of the Pre-service training, candidates will be invited to participate in an interview after which individuals will be informed of whether they have been successful in starting a career in the teaching profession.
Sessions for the 2020 Pre-Service training will include: Teaching Portfolio, Teacher as a Professional: The Law: Expectations, Rights & Responsibilities, Record Keeping, Health & Wellness in the Workplace as well as Effective Schools SKN.
Also on the schedule are: Teaching Like a Champion: Lesson Planning (Differentiation & Special Needs) as well as Classroom Management. Discipline, Blended Instructions; and Basic Use of MS Teams (the official online learning platform of the Ministry of Education) are also key topics for discussion.
As customary, participants are required to follow health and safety protocols in keeping with the advise of the Ministry of Health and the COVID-19 Task Force.Minister of Education Hon Jonel Powell will deliver remarks.
