St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN) – On Saturday, September 19, 2020, the Nevis Island Administration recognized ten individuals for their service and contribution to the development of Nevis at an Independence Day Awards Ceremony at Government House, Bath Plain, Nevis.
The Independence Day awardees received their engraved plaques by Deputy Governor-General, Her Honor Hyleeta Liburd.
Vaughn Anslyn for his contribution in the field of art; Thelma Hunkins in the area of community service and business; Oscar “King Astro” Browne and Calver-Lee “Gharlic” Swanston for their contribution to culture and music; Althea Jeffers- Jones for the area of education; Laurel Smithen for her contribution to the area of health; Dr. Whitman Browne for the area of literature; Captain James Greene for his contribution to maritime services; Austin Lescott for his contribution to the area of security and Winston Crooke for his contribution to sports.
The ceremony which commenced at 8:00 a.m. saw in attendance Premier of Nevis, Hon. Mark Brantley, other senior government officials, opposition member Hon. Cleone Stapleton- Simmonds, family members, and specially invited guests. The ceremony marked the 37th Anniversary of Independence of St. Kitts and Nevis which was celebrated under the theme “Resilience, Innovation and Security for Independence 2020”.
