St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Six women were recognised for their contribution to the development of sports on the island of Nevis at an awards ceremony on Wednesday, March 09 held in commemoration of International Women’s Month.

The awardees are Ms. Jeanette Grell-Hull for netball; Ms. Kerisha Powell for football; Mrs. Judy Daniel-Morton; and Ms. Saneldo Willett for cricket; Ms. Veronica Brandy for basketball; and Ms. Taneka Liburd for track and field.

Speaking at the awards ceremony was Minister with responsibility for Sports on Nevis Hon. Eric Evelyn.

“I believe activities like these are important because we need to put hardworking and dedicated women like yourselves in the spotlight deservedly because all of you have done an excellent job in the respective area that you will be awarded in tonight…”

Ms. Tianna Liburd, in delivering the featured address, said “I want to take this moment to express heartfelt gratitude to each of you on behalf of females in Nevis who are actively engaged in sports.

Regardless of the sport, your role, or your time in sport, the foundations you have laid or built upon are important to me and many young ladies all across Nevis. We are often taught in life to find motivation. I use that to motivate you towards achieving your goals.”

The second annual Women in Sports Awards Ceremony took place at the Jessups Community Centre and saw in attendance Deputy Governor-General for Nevis Her Honour Mrs. Hyleeta Liburd; Junior Minister of Health and Gender Affairs Hon. Hazel Brandy-Williams; and Director of Sports Mr. Jamir Claxton as well as the family of the awardees.
