St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The 2021-2022 Soca Monarch Competition was held last night (December 23) at Carnival Village, and two new monarchs were the winners of the Groovy and Power segments.
Nicha B secured his place as the new Groovy Soca Monarch ousting the defending King Rucas H.E.
The 2021 – 2022 Groovy Soca top three scores were:
King: Nicha B – We Miss Dat (407 points)
1st runner up Mr. Hype – Marry You (404 points)
2nd runner up: Rucas H.E. – We Inna Da (400 points)
The Nicha B performance was reminiscent of Parade Day and featured the Bull and Masquerade, costumes, and steel band, to reflect pre-covid carnival moments.
Mr. Hype took the crown for the Power segment of the Soca Monarch competition with his song “Bubble”.
Mr. Hype’s Bubble focused on J’ouvert Morning feteing in St. Kitts as a homage to the way we celebrated before the COVID-19 pandemic came in 2020.
The 2021 J’ouvert celebrations are being staged in an enclosed space this year, same as in 2020, and his song reminds us of J’ouvert before masks and social distancing.
The 2021 – 2022 Power Soca Monarch top three scores were:
King: MR HYPE – Bubble (438 points)
1st runner up T Bone – Task Force (390 points)
2nd runner up Dejour – Alpha (385 points)
