Director in the Department of Marine Resources, Dr. Marc Williams says tomorrow’s Independence Night Market will highlight the products and profession of the nation’s fisherfolk.
The Director made the comments while speaking with the Media and Communication Unit in the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources.
“The independent Night Market 2021 which is in celebration of our 38th anniversary of Independence is an important occasion for the Ministry of agriculture Fisheries and Marine Resources. we always seek to create additional markets for fisherfolk being from the Department of Marine resources and the night market is something where fishers can highlight their profession and the products that are available within the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis”, he expressed.
He also explained how the night market initiatives help to source markets for fisherfolk during these challenging times.
“It is extended to all fisherfolk in Saint Kitts and Nevis to participate in this event, so that given the challenges that we are experiencing with finding markets for fish products, given the downturn in the world’s economy we will be able to tap into markets which we have not traditionally tapped into in the past. We encourage the citizens of the federation of St. Kitts and Nevis to come out and support our fisherfolk and our farmers in the demonstration of their products that they have available”, Dr. Williams stated.
The Independence Night Market, which is being hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources forms part of the federation’s 38th Anniversary of Independence activities.
The event takes place on Wednesday 22 September from 5 pm-10 pm.
