St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Ms. Jaedee Caines, Nevis Reformation Party Candidate for Nevis 1, is imploring individuals to refrain from violence.
Ms. Caines made this appeal on social media, following a shooting incident that occurred nearby her residence last week.
“As someone who has gone to school with many people and I am acquainted with many persons who have fallen victim to violence, I understand the pain that families feel; and so I believe it is important for me to call on all of us to stop the violence. It is time for us to stop leaving parents without their children. It is time for us to stop leaving children without parents. It is also time for us to stop leaving communities without talented men and women.”
The politician said she is comforted in the fact that she was able to assist the victim.
“I am however saddened that at least one person was injured. One injury as a result of violence is one too many. Although saddened by this incident, I am comforted in the fact that I was able to offer assistance to an injured person. Even if I had never seen the person before, I would have offered my assistance because he is someone’s son. He is a human being.”
However, Ms. Caines said there have been conflicting stories about the incident and therefore encouraged individuals to not spread false information.
“I am aware that there have been many versions of the story circulating on social and non-traditional media; and I am using this platform, calling on everyone to be responsible in our storytelling. We ought not to go around spreading untruths. Rather, what we can do is offer assistance to the police if we have information about the incident.”
The politician also extended appreciation to the people who have reached out to her in concern; noting that she is eternally grateful for the overwhelming support.
