St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN)—People’s Action Movement (PAM) Deputy Political Leader Azard Gumbs emphasised that more must be done to improve Constituency #4’s infrastructure, expand affordable housing, and drive community-based tourism and job creation.

“I am focused on becoming the next representative for Constituency #4, so I can deliver more for the people of Constituency #4. I see constituency number four as a constituency where more can be done. I have been raised in constituency number four, I live in constituency number four, and I think more can be done for constituency number four, and more will be done for constituency number four, so my focus right now is constituency number four.”

Gumbs has previously pointed out poor road conditions in areas like Conyers, Halfway Tree, and Green Acres, as well as substandard recreational and sporting facilities in Lamberts and Challengers.

He noted strong demand for affordable housing initiatives and emphasised the creation of technical, educational, and small-business opportunities for young people.

With the introduction of two additional parties, the One Federal Alliance and the New Direction Party, to contest seats in the next general election, Gumbs said he would not be deterred.

“I think ultimately the decision would be for the people to decide. The people of St. Christopher 4 will make the decision as to who would best serve them as the elected representative. I will continue to do work. It could be five persons, it could be 10 persons, it could be 20 persons. I will continue to do the work of engaging, listening, showing up, and being around the constituency. I am someone who was born and raised in constituency number four. I developed most of my skills. The person who I am is a result, a product of constituency four. I continue to live in constituency four, and so it is my community; it is my constituency, and whether it is five persons, 10 persons, 20 persons, I will continue to do the work. It shows that our democracy is alive, and it shows that persons are interested, just like myself, and so at the end of the day, the people of St. Christopher 4will make the decision.”

Gumbs acknowledged the impact the collapse of Team Unity had on the People’s Action Movement but stated that the party has been doing the community work to reignite confidence.

“We will continue to do the work. We have been canvassing, we have been meeting persons, and so we continue to do that.
Of course, there would have been persons who were disappointed in the last general election. It was a snap election. Persons had believed in what was there then for them, and so with the collapse of team unity, a lot of persons, because it was a snap election, didn’t understand what was going on, and so they stayed at home. And at this point in time, we have been hitting the pavements. We have been meeting with people, meeting with families. I have been meeting with families in my own constituency, constituency number four. Sometimes I sit down for 15 minutes talking about what would be done for constituency number four, and for the people of St. Kitts and Nevis, and ensuring them that at this time, the People’s Action Movement will deliver. And so I say that this election is one about building relationships of trust, that persons feel confident that when they go out and vote, they’re voting for someone who’ll serve them best. And that is why I say in constituency four, and in all the constituencies where we are contesting the People’s Action Movement, that we are ensuring that the people are placed first and foremost.”
