St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): ‘Keeping the Promise’ live series for the People’s Action Movement (PAM) continued on Thursday (Mar. 03) with a special appearance by the Hon. Jonel Powell, Chairman of PAM and Member of Parliament (MP) for Central Basseterre.
The ‘Keeping the Promise’ live series forms part of pre-activities leading up to PAM’s Annual National Convention slated for Sunday, March 13, 2022.
“This year, we are in St. Mary’s Park in Cayon and I expect it to be even bigger. It’s an opportunity for us as a party to reaffirm our commitment to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis, and our partners in Team Unity to keep the promise that we made to both of them…
I am tremendously excited. We had a bumper convention last year, the biggest one ever and we did it a little differently by taking it outside of PAM Headquarters and going to Sandy Point,” Powell said.
Powell currently serves as Minister of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture in the Team Unity Administration following his win in the June 05, 2020 General Election replacing two-term MP Marcella Liburd of the St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party.
“My predecessor lost by about 500 votes. I was able to narrow that gap; I lost by 98 so that showed me that the people of Central Basseterre wanted a change. It showed me that they believed in me and what I was offering and it really motivated me to continue the work to actually win the seat and we did so in good style by 235 votes so if you look at the gap that was narrowed in that five-year span, you’re talking about just under 800 votes.”
