St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Ms. Natasha Grey, the recently announced East Basseterre candidate for the People’s Action Movement (PAM), says she will aim to address social ills affecting the constituents of East Basseterre.
At Monday’s press conference following the announcement of her candidacy, Ms. Grey told journalists that crime and violence, inadequate housing, and unemployment in East Basseterre are areas of concern for her that she will seek to tackle.
“As of recently, the crime situation in East Basseterre has increased a bit. I would wish to create a program whereby you can help troubled individuals to refrain from following a particular pathway,” Ms. Grey said. She added, “that would help the community in the reduction of crime”.
Speaking on unemployment in the constituency, Ms. Grey said that has long been an issue for the constituents, and “in the future, I would wish to present to my cabinet colleagues particular programs that can increase employment.”.
Ms. Grey further stressed that “housing has also been an issue”. She said, “there is very limited land in terms of creating housing opportunities for East Basseterre residents, but I am quite certain that looking within the Ministry of Social Development, and the options available, we can create new avenues for housing opportunities for people.”.
The candidacy of Ms. Natasha Grey received ringing endorsements from her party colleagues including Deputy Leaders Eugene Hamilton and Lindsay Grant and Chairman Jonel Powell as well as Leader Shawn Richards.
“Working in the service of her community is her sworn duty. Making sacrifices for others, sometimes at her own personal expense, is her call to duty and a duty she performs willingly and with love,” Richards said while using the opportunity to solicit the support of the constituents of East Basseterre.
He said “the people of East Basseterre now have a new alternative who has always been a fighter for them. I invite the people of East Basseterre to open their arms and welcome lawyer Natasha “Shanny” Grey as their next elected parliamentary representative whenever the elections are called.”.
