Basseterre, St. Kitts [Ministry of Health] – The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has generously donated a vehicle to the Ministry of Health of St. Kitts and Nevis. The official handover took place on Friday, August 4th, 2023, at the Newtown Health Center marking a collaborative effort to improve healthcare accessibility and delivery across the island.
The generously donated vehicle, a bus, is earmarked to play an instrumental role in advancing the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), a pivotal initiative aimed at enhancing vaccine outreach activities. This programme will allow for the more efficient transportation of vaccines to persons in need of vaccine coverage and at-risk groups, including farmers and individuals in various business sectors. Furthermore, the vehicle will be a key resource in facilitating the transportation of nursing staff to conduct education sessions for parents and caregivers, ensuring that vital health information is accessible across the community.
“We are incredibly grateful for the generous donation from the Pan American Health Organization,” stated Prime Minister and Minister of Health for St. Kitts and Nevis, Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew. “This vehicle will not only enable us to deliver better healthcare services to our communities but will also strengthen our ability to respond to public health challenges effectively.”
The partnership between PAHO and the Ministry of Health is a testament to the shared commitment to advancing healthcare and wellness for the citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis. The tangible assistance provided by PAHO demonstrates their dedication to improving healthcare infrastructure and accessibility in the region. The handover was done by Ms Anneke Wilson, PAHO Country Program Specialist.
As the Ministry of Health of St. Kitts and Nevis receives this invaluable contribution, they express their gratitude to PAHO for their unwavering support. The Ministry pledges to continue collaborating with PAHO to further develop and enhance healthcare initiatives, with the ultimate goal of ensuring the health and well-being of the nation’s residents.
