St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Under the advice of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Government has changed the Value Added Tax (VAT) Reduced Days for 2021.

“The revised dates provided by the Chamber for Friday, December 17 and Saturday, [December] 18 as the new dates when consumers will benefit in a major reduction in the applicable VAT rate,” said Prime Minister the Hon Dr. Timothy Harris during the December 1 sitting of the National Assembly.

The previous dates were Thursday, December 16, and Saturday, December 18.

Dr. Harris said that one of the reasons the Chamber presented for the change stemmed from an influx of cruise passengers in the Federation on December 16, with six cruises docked in Basseterre.

“The reasons that the Chamber has advanced was that they were concerned that on the previous date they had proposed, the 16th, we will have a large number of cruise ships docked in Basseterre and that we will have an overflow of thousands of cruise passengers on December 16. That, of course, would not provide for the greatest efficiency in terms of our people moving to and fro to execute business on the 16.”

The Chamber proposed December 17 because that day will have significantly lower cruise passengers in the federation.
