St Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris is pledging to erect a fitting monument on St. Kitts in tribute to the hundreds who perished in the MV Christena Disaster.
The announcement was made at the opening of an MV Christena Disaster Exhibition at the National Museum Saturday afternoon (August 1).
In an earlier presentation at the opening of the exhibition, President of the St. Christopher National Trust Mr. Schneidman Warner lamented the fact that 50 years had passed without a fitting acknowledgment of the MV Christena Disaster on St. Kitts.
Mr. Warner also used that occasion to appeal for help in preserving the 126-year-old building that houses the museum and got a welcome response from the prime minister.
PM Harris pledged that the government will make a donation to the museum in the amount of EC$2 million dollars to assist with the refurbishment of the building, and also contribute $25,000.00 to the next exhibit.
