St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN) – Following the situation where officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force spoke out on what they describe as moves to “frustrate and stifle” the Explorer’s Club Program, Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew gave his perspective on the future of the club.

“From my perspective, I am going to invest even more in the Explorer’s Club. The Explorer’s Club as a mandate – I had been a part of the Explorer’s Club at some point in St. Peter’s in terms of giving external support – it’s a good club, and I will give it full support as Prime Minister, so people can be assured that the Explorer’s Club will get stronger.”

The Explorer’s Club has been in the spotlight after officers associated with the club spoke out about what was described as attempts by the “powers that be to frustrate and stifle the success of the explorers and community policing programmes”.

James Sutton, Commissioner of Police in the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, shared a statement with the Press on May 16 shared that the club was one of the community initiatives of the Police to have undergone operational changes, one of which was a change in leadership.

“Sgt. Ricardo ‘Ricky’ Sampson as the leader of the Community Policing Team with specific responsibility for the Explorer’s Clubs on St. Kitts.”

There have been no direct references to Inspector Rosemarie Isles Joseph, the creator of the Explorer’s Club and Officer Fernando McSheene, who were the officers who spoke out on the happenings of the club.
