St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Three young people who were arrested following Friday’s protest at Church Street, Basseterre, St. Kitts were granted bail in the sum of $15,000.00 each according to Superintendent of Police Cromwell Henry.
Mr. Ramonge Bassue otherwise known as Model Cop Shaq, Ms. Annivea Hutchinson and Ms. Pretha Thom appeared before the Magistrate’s Court Monday morning (Aug. 23) to answer to the charges which range from — taking part in a public procession without permission from the police, breach of the peace, willful obstruction, obstructing a police officer, resisting arrest, and malicious damage.
“They are expected to return to court on October 4, 2021,” the top cop said.
According to the Director of Public Prosecutions, the charges stem from incidents that occured on August 02 and 20, 2021.
“They threw out 5 of the 8 charges which were from August 2,” a source told WINN on Monday.
Some protestors were arrested and a large gathering disbanded when met with heavy police and armed security presence in Basseterre on Friday (Aug.20).
Similar protests with people not in support of forced or mandatory vaccination have taken place across the Caribbean in countries like Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, the USVI, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
