St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN) — Unconfirmed reports that a number of individuals were caught smuggling illegal drugs into St. Kitts sometime late this week were not confirmed by police at news time Saturday.
WINN made contact with a senior police officer of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force to seek confirmation but the officer was unable to confirm or deny the reports.
Meanwhile…Mr. Adolph Adams, Assistant Commissioner of Police confirmed that a joint operation was carried out on Nevis which resulted in the discovery of some component parts of a firearm on Thursday evening (March 04).
“Last evening (March 04) the Police conducted a joint operation with other agencies and during that operation, some component parts in relation to firearms were found, and based on our laws, a component part for a firearm carries the same penalty as a firearm under the firearms act. A number of persons were taken into custody…at this time, I am unable to disclose any names” as the investigation is underway.
A Customs Officer and an employee of a well-known shipping company on Nevis were reportedly arrested on Friday (March 05).
