St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Political Leaders on Nevis, the Hon Mark Brantley, Mr. Samuel Caines and Dr. Janice Daniel-Hodge has taken the opportunity to remember and express condolences to the family and friends of twenty-one-year-old Natalya “Tav” Newton Roberts.

Premier of Nevis and Leader of the Concerned Citizens Movement, the Honourable Mark Brantley took to social media on Thursday morning (July 28) to express words of condolences. He noted, “All of Nevis is mourning the tragic and untimely death of young Natalya Newton-Roberts in a road accident early yesterday. Our prayers are with her family and friends at this extremely difficult time. May the memories of her comfort those who mourn.”

Samuel Caines, Political Leader of the Moral Restoration Movement has also conveyed sympathy to the family, friends and by wider extension the people of Nevis. Caines said he knows the family quite well, including Natalyah’s grandmother, Idella Newton. Caines said, upon hearing the news he went into total depression, as the tragedy brought back memories of his brother who died in a fatal accident many years ago. He added that the news must have been totally devastating for the mother to hear, remembering the cries of his mother when his brother died.

Caines also told WINN FM that he had an opportunity to speak to Natalya’s great uncle, who is also the father of the driver and encouraged him to stay close to his son, as it too must be very difficult and nerve-racking for him.

Moreover, Caines is encouraging the family to call on God for healing and compassion, as only He can provide comfort at this time. He added that everyone should pray for the family and also make prayer a significant part of our daily lives.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Nevis Reformation Party said, “while Nomination Day was an unforgettable and exciting day for the Nevis Reformation Party, today (July 27) we woke up to sad news of the young and beautiful Tav. A young woman who had such a promising future, but sadly today she is gone.” She added, “As leader of the Nevis Reformation Party, my heart reaches out to Idella and her family, Tav’s mom, her father, siblings, other relatives and close friends…So shocking. So sad. This is a time we learn to lean and depend more on each other, but most importantly, lean closer to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. In these times, he comes to our comfort.

My fellow Nevisians and Residents, death continues to remind us, to cherish our loved ones and not take them for granted. May Tav rest in eternal peace and for those of us who were close to her, may we find comfort in the memories we shared.”

The St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force confirmed that she was extricated from the vehicle by members of the St. Kitts-Nevis Fire and Rescue Services and was pronounced dead at the scene by the District Medical Officer.
