St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): At 3:35 p.m. on Saturday (August 27) SKELEC informed the public that service had been restored to all communities affected by a near island-wide blackout.

A Facebook post by the Minister of Infrastructure, the Hon Konris Maynard early Saturday morning said, “At about 5:30 a.m. an electrical event caused a Ring Main at the Needsmust Power Station to burn out.”

The staff of SKELEC and the Fire and Rescue Services were able to contain the fire caused by the electrical event.

According to Minister Maynard, a complete electrical grid repair was expected to take around 8 hours to complete.

The affected feeders were Port Zante, Sandy Point, South East Peninsular 1, Bayfords, Canada Estate, Industrial site, and Frigate Bay.
