St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Prime Minister and Minister of Finance in the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis, The Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew met with the hierarchy of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank on Thursday September 8.
Prime Minister Drew paid a courtesy call on ECCB’s Governor, Timothy N. J Antoine and Deputy Governor, Dr. Valda Henry, as well as senior managers at the bank.
Prime Minister Drew is the newest member of the ECCB Monetary Council after the St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party of which he leads won the National Assembly Elections on August 05 2022. As per requirement Prime Minister Drew took the Oath of Secrecy which was administered by ECCB’s Director of Legal Services, Merlese O’loughlin.
According to a report published on the bank’s website, a cordial meeting was held between Prime Minister Drew and the ECCB officials.
ECCB noted, “During the cordial meeting, the ECCB team discussed several issues with Prime Minister Drew including economic and financial sector developments, ECCU legislative agenda and renewable energy. The Prime Minister gave the assurance that the Government and the people of St Kitts and Nevis would work with the ECCB to explore new economic possibilities and relationships, in light of the dynamics that have emerged since the COVID-19 pandemic. He affirmed that the ECCB could count on him to provide the leadership required to ensure the Bank’s transformation agenda is advanced for the benefit of the citizens and residents of St Kitts and Nevis and the ECCU.”
The ECCB report also confirmed that Prime Minister Drew “applauded the Bank for its critical work and innovations and pledged his full support for the strategic agenda of the Bank, which aligns well with some of the priorities of his new administration.”
