Basseterre, St. Kitts: Monday, 9th August 2021 – About 90 prospective teachers who participated in the pre-service ceremony engaged in an interview session. This session is the final step before the selection of new teachers. The interviews were held over the period Wednesday, 4th August to Friday, 6th August, 2021.
Ms. Stacy Gumbs, Personnel Officer within the Ministry of Education, outlined the selection process of prospective teachers. She explained that “applications were reviewed and only those persons who were suitably qualified in areas where there are likely to be vacancies, were invited to the pre-service training and the interviews.”
Ms. Gumbs noted, “The interview concluded the penultimate phase of the recruitment process for prospective teachers. It afforded the Ministry of Education personnel the opportunity to interact with prospective teachers, and thereby capture another category of information that would be used to select the best candidate for teaching should there be any vacancy within their preferred area of teaching.”
The interviewees engaged with a panel of individuals comprising both retired and current educators. The main interview areas included questions related to success on the job, the interest and goals of the individual, as well as working in context with the global changes that are affecting education that includes the integration of technology within the teaching and learning process.
Interviewees can expect to receive further communication from the Ministry of Education by the ending of August 2021.
