St Kitts and Nevis (WINN): “Let’s Reduce, Reuse, Recycle for a better tomorrow” is the key message guiding the Primary School Recycling Competition in St. Kitts and Nevis.
The Recycling Competition runs from Monday, September 11 to Friday, October 06, 2023 and hopes to raise awareness among Principals, teachers and students about the importance of recycling waste and protecting the environment.
The Primary Schools have one month to collect recyclable plastic materials, such as drinking bottles, containers, cups and detergent bottles which will be compiled together at the schools and picked up by the competition officials at the end of each week.
However, the plastic items must be empty and clean before collection. Otherwise, dirty recyclables won’t be counted or managed.
Collection for recyclables have already begun; the first being September 15 in St. Kitts and September 13 in Nevis.
The remaining collection schedule for Primary Schools in St. Kitts are September 22, September 29 and October 06. In Nevis, the schedule is September 20, September 27 and October 06.
According to competition information, “The total weight of each school collected will be divided by the number of students in each school. The weight is the average weight of the plastic collected per student and each school will use this number as their collection result. The top three schools that have the most collection results will be the winners. If the collection result is over 1 pound per student, the school is qualified to get the participation award.”
