(Trinidad Express) – A disgusting, racist speech.

This was how former prime minister Dr Keith Rowley described Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s Independence Day messages.

In a Facebook post yesterday, Rowley accused Persad-Bissessar of fuelling racial and social division in Trinidad and Tobago and called on her to apologise to the nation for what he described as “vile, racist rubbish”.

“I am calling on her to apologise to the nation for defiling our 64th anniversary of Independence with the publication of her vile racist rubbish, which threatens peace, prosperity and stability of the country,” Rowley said.

He said the Prime Minister had returned to government “not to build on any foundation or to keep the promises made for a better life for all”, but as “a vile and angry old woman” bent on taking vengeance against sections of the population whom she believed had kept her out of office for a decade.

“Her poor leadership and ridiculous selection of persons to serve in Cabinet and elsewhere is one thing but when the Prime Minister prepares and publishes two dangerously disgusting racist speeches as her contribution to our celebration of Independence 2026, after she cancelled such event in 2025, the nation must take note and Kamla Persad-Bissessar needs to stop.”
