St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN) — School Safety Officers from across the Federation attended the ceremonial opening of the Introductory School Safety Course hosted by the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) on Monday, June 17, at the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Conference Room.

Francil Morris, Chief Education Officer, emphasised the significance of the training. “This week-long program reflects our Ministry’s commitment to providing school personnel with the necessary knowledge and skills to maintain safe learning environments. We appreciate the support from CDEMA, Mr Khodra, and our partners in enhancing school safety,” Morris stated.

Bernez Khodra, Senior Programme Officer for Safe Schools at CDEMA and course facilitator, outlined the course’s objectives. “The safe school program aligns with CDEMA’s strategic plans and aims to reduce vulnerabilities and enhance resilience in the education sector. Participants will serve as ambassadors for the School Safety Programme and may become instructors to ensure its sustainability,” Khodra explained.

Khodra thanked partners, including the Ministry of Education in St. Kitts and Nevis and the School Safety team. “Their dedication ensures participants gain the knowledge and skills to contribute positively to schools and communities. We also thank the National Disaster Office, UNICEF, the Caribbean Development Bank, the Government of Norway, and other stakeholders for their support,” Khodra added.

The Safe School Training Course commenced on Monday, June 17, and will conclude on Friday, June 21.
