St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Seven calypsonians have received the green light to compete against reigning monarch Oscar King Astro’ Browne at the TDC Senior Kaiso Finals slated for Friday, August 04 at the Nevis Cultural Complex.
The results from the Kaiso Semifinals held on Sunday night July 23 placed King Hollywood in the top spot heading into the final competition with 508 points.
King Dis and Dat amassed a total of 489 points and Nutsy received 480 points. Calypsonians, Murray and Sookie copped 444 points each, while Baker and Invincible tied for 437 points.
Heading into the semi-finals, there were 12 competitors. However, Lady Composer, Bad Man Polo, Akedo and De Undertaker were eliminated from the competition. Meanwhile, Empress Lyric received 436 points to become the alternative competitor. This means, if a calypsonian of the final seven cannot compete, Empress Lyric will take that spot.
The Calypsonians will engage in two rounds of vocal presentations including ‘If you no strong’ and ‘Confession’ by King Hollywood; ‘Building De Country’ and ‘De Nation’s Health’ by King Dis and Dat; ‘A nation to build’ and ‘For me fans dem’ by Nutsy; ‘House of Judas’ and ‘Old Soldiers’ by Murray; ‘Our culture will live on’ and ‘Sookie for the Monarchy’ by Sookie; ‘We losing it’ and ‘Price Control’ by Baker; and ‘Old Boys’ and ‘Begging Society’ by Invincible.
