St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): More than EC$30 million has been paid out in severance to date in St. Kitts and Nevis.
That disclosure was made by Premier of Nevis, the Hon. Mark Brantley at his Wednesday, April 28, 2021 press conference.
“The total paid out is some $30,42,565.65. I am advised that 69 percent of the claims paid have been for Nevisians employees to date. I do not at this point have a breakdown of the numbers for Nevis specifically.”
“I empathize with those who are still waiting for severance payments but I can say to them that effort is being made to work through..”
Premier Brantley indicated that challenges are being met with the processing of claims as there were qualified individuals who worked more than one job and applied more than once.
“…so they have claimed from each job. And so their names are popping up on more than one list. There was also a complaint that in relation to some employers of long-standing, that when they ask ‘when was the start date for an employee, they were been given a date 20 and 30 years ago and it had not been taken into account that those businesses might have closed or employees might have had severance paid to them during the course of that business
Premier Brantley said as of April 28, 2021, a total of 2, 284 claims have been submitted while 1,837 claims have been processed.
