St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The St.Kitts Water Services Department issued an advisory to villagers in Shadwell and surrounding areas, explaining the probability of water disruptions.
A resident of Shadwell told WINN they had been experiencing low water pressure for the last few days.
According to the water department, “the main valve on the 10″ distribution line has been deemed faulty. A wide cross-section of areas will be experiencing low pressure while others will have no water supply.”
The affected areas are Shadwell East and West, Pine Garden, Shadwell Estate, Shadwell Gardens/Housing, Wade’s Garden and the upper part of Taylor’s, College Housing and Bladen Housing.
The Water Services Department indicated that it is working to rectify the issue.
There have been ongoing water issues in that area for the past few weeks. The water challenges in St. Peters have been ongoing since early September due to a mechanical failure of the pump that supplies water to the area.
Permanent Secretary Mr Darryl Lloyd and the Water Engineer Cromwell Williams, with their team, worked vigorously to resolve the issue. However, where water issues seem to be resolved in a specific vicinity, other problems continue to arise in other areas.
Through support from the Ministry of Utilities, the water department continues to solicit from the community the practice of water conservation methods as water in the distribution system has been low. To rectify the issue, during a Cabinet meeting in June, the Water Engineer requested that the Federation consider the installation of a desalination plant and immediately drill wells to increase the water supply.
