St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Leader of the People’s Action Movement Shawn Richards who was recently dismissed as Deputy Prime Minister and a member of the Cabinet in the Team Unity Coalition has described the leadership of Dr. Timothy Harris as illegitimate.

Speaking to journalists at a media briefing on Wednesday (May. 11) at the RLB International Airport, Richards said “Dr. Harris no longer has the moral authority to lead the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Six of us wrote to the Governor-General indicating that we no longer support him so as far as I am concerned, his leadership at this time is illegitimate.”

On Tuesday (May. 10), Dr. Harris, in an address to the nation, informed citizens and residents that had advised the Governor-General to revoke the appointment of Shawn Richards as Deputy Prime Minister and that of five other Government Ministers. Dr. Harris also told the nation that he had advised the Governor-General to dissolve the Parliament paving the way for fresh elections in the country.

The Cabinet of the Team Unity Administration now comprises Eugene Hamilton as Deputy Prime Minister; Akilah Byron-Nisbett will take the responsibility of Culture; Wendy Phipps will assume additional responsibility for Tourism, Transport and Ports; Attorney General Vincent Byron Jr. will assume the responsibilities of Foreign Affairs, Aviation, Education, Youth and Sports; and the ministries of Agriculture, Fisheries, Marine Resources and Environment will be managed by the Ministry of Sustainable Development.
