St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): St. Kitts-Nevis National Carnival Committee is making a clarion call for all road march contenders to submit in writing the name of their songs ahead of the official opening of the 2022-2023 Carnival season on December 2, 2022.
Road March bands, soca artists and calypsonians are expected to make the submissions to the Carnival Secretariat by November 18 to ensure that the tunes to be considered for Roach March are documented. In addition, the Carnival Secretariat advises all Road March contenders to publicly release their songs by Friday, November 25, as the release is also a part of the competition.
To encourage the early release of all pieces and to boost the participation of contenders, the Secretariat has bumped up the prize monies for the Road March.
The Carnival Committee said in a press release, “ For the first time in the history of Carnival, the Road March winner will receive EC $20,000, almost doubling what it was in 2019, the last time the competition was held. The first runner-up will receive EC $15,000, and the second runner-up will walk away with EC $10,000.”
The results for the Road March will be determined on January 3, 2023, the day of the Carnival Grand Parade Last Lap. Judging will occur between 5 and 11 am on December 26, Jouvert Jump Up. The Jouvert Jump Up returns to full effect after a two-year hiatus; in 2021, the Bubble Jouvert was introduced and no hosting of the event in 2020.
The rules and guidelines for the Road March competition are available online at www.skncarnival.com or the Carnival Secretariat in the E.C Daniel Building on Cayon Street in Basseterre.
