SKN Drenched With Rainfall From Tropical Cyclone 9

St Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Heavy downpours of rain from the passage of Tropical Cyclone 9 continues the drench the federation of St Kitts and Nevis and the rest of the Leeward Islands.

According to the National Hurricane Centre, the cyclone which still has the potential of becoming Tropical Storm Isaias, at 2 pm was located about 105 miles south of St Croix and about 180 miles southwest of Puerto Rico.

The system is moving toward the west-northwest at 23 mph with maximum sustained winds at 45 mph with higher gusts.

The northern Leeward Islands can expect to up to 3 to 6 inches of rain.

In a release earlier today (July 29), the National Disaster Coordinator of NEMA, Mr Abdias Samuel, implored residents to steer clear of ghauts as there is a potential for flash flooding.

The NEOC will have another briefing on the tropical cyclone at 6 pm.
