SKN PM in Washington for 2023 Word Bank Spring Meetings

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Prime Minister Hon. Dr Terrance Drew is currently in Washington, DC, with a small delegation, Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office Naeemah Hazelle and Director of Fiscal Affairs & Policy in the Ministry of Finance Versilie Francis for the Word Bank Spring Meetings 2023 running from April 10 to 16.

Central bankers, ministers of finance and development, legislators, business executives, members of civil society organisations, and academics meet at the World Bank Group’s (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Spring Meetings of the Boards of Governors to discuss the state of the world economy,= poverty, economic development, and the efficacy of aid through various seminars, regional briefings, press conferences, and more devoted to the global economy, international development, and financial system.

The Prime Minister will also hold a Diaspora Meeting in Washington, DC, with Kittitian and Nevisian nationals who live in the Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) areas.

The meeting will occur on Saturday, April 15, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 pm. at the Embassy of St. Kitts and Nevis, 3216 New Mexico Ave NW, Washington, D.C.

Dr Drew is then slated to attend the “Violence as a Public Health Issue – The Crime Challenge” Regional Symposium in Trinidad and Tobago from April 17-18.

The event will seek to address the root causes of violent crime, where several research projects have occurred around this theme; a public health approach addressing violence and crime will be presented.

The Prime Minister will be accompanied by Permanent Secretary in Prime Minister’s Office, Naeemah Hazelle; Permanent Secretary of National Security, Cecile Hull; Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Dr Sharon Archibald; and Adviser in the Ministry of Health, Dr Patrick Martin.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Housing & Human Settlement et al., Hon. Dr Geoffrey Hanley, is in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with other regional ministers and government agencies attending the forum of Ministers and high-level authorities on housing and urban development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The forum is an intergovernmental coordination and cooperation entity that promotes the sustainable development of human settlements and seeks to establish innovative and adequate housing and urban development solutions for Latin America and the Caribbean.

On the agenda include funding for Climate Change Mitigation in Urban Settlements to contribute to increased costs of projects and programs that impact climate change resilience or reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

Hon. Konris Maynard has been appointed Acting Prime Minister while Prime Minister Drew is off-island.
