St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN) – St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew has been visiting several government-operated health facilities on St. Kitts and, in a post on social media, reported that it was apparent that the facilities require upgrades.
On November 28. the Prime Minister visited the Basseterre Health Centre and Cardin Home to meet the staff and discuss the issues they have been facing over the years.
Dr. Drew said the facilities require much-needed infrastructural rehabilitation and operational upgrades to restore them to an acceptable condition conducive to operating standards.
The Minister of Health wrote, “After being in the healthcare industry for many years, I am aware of the concerns and issues within the sector and will work assiduously to address the matters.”
The government has already begun creating an e-government system to modernise and digitise the record-keeping and administrative processes within the various departments, said Dr. Drew.
Dr. Sheneil Islaes, Director of Community Health Services, said she welcomed the visit from the Prime Minister so that he would get a better understanding of what is done within Community Health Services.
A nurse at the Basseterre Health Centre said the walkthrough had given them a chance to address the grievances of the public healthcare workers.
