St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN)—The 2026 ASTA Caribbean Showcase took place in St. Kitts from August 22–25, marking the first time the island hosted this flagship event.
Organised by the American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA) in collaboration with the St. Kitts Tourism Authority, the conference brought together premier U.S. travel agents, regional tourism ministers, and top global travel brands.
The four-day event served as a critical platform for the Federation to move beyond traditional marketing and allow key decision-makers to experience its unique tourism product firsthand.
Speakers and honoured guests included Hon. Marsha Henderson, Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, International Transport, Employment and Labour, and Urban Development, St. Kitts; Hon. Mark Brantley, Premier of Nevis; Hon. Dr Kishore Shallow, Minister of Tourism and Maritime Affairs, St. Vincent and the Grenadines; Hon. Zhavargo Jolly, Minister of Tourism, Agriculture, Fisheries, Heritage and the Environment, Turks & Caicos Islands; and Hon. Luce Hodge-Smith, Junior Minister for Tourism and Culture, British Virgin Islands.
They addressed critical challenges including regional airlift, AI integration, and sustainable tourism growth.
During the opening ceremony, Tourism Minister Hon. Marsha Henderson delivered a message characterising the islands as the region’s “hidden gem” and one of the last truly unspoiled destinations in the Caribbean. St. Kitts Tourism Authority CEO Kelly Fontenelle led panels focused on defining “the new luxury,” wellness trends, and utilising authentic storytelling to sell the destination.
Davina Baptiste, a representative of Christophe Harbour Development, emphasised the growing importance of authenticity and storytelling in driving visitors to destinations.
“And you know, you hear people want to hear our stories and they want to experience the destination like I said, like we do. So they would always ask, you know, what do you like? What’s your favourite food? Where should we go to eat? And it’s these authentic connections that make for really memorable experiences. I remember when we first opened here at the Marriott, there was a couple that flew over from St. Martin and were like, we don’t have a reservation. We heard that there was a Marriott here. You know, we booked a few nights so I walked them in. And then I saw them not after and I was like, I thought you just had a short visit, you know, what are you still doing here? They’re like, we loved it so much. We bought a house across the road from us, right? So I’ve seen that time and time again, that these connections turn into people that return time and time again.”
The St. Kitts Tourism Authority, during the trade exhibition, connected travel advisors with tourism boards, destination suppliers, and industry partners across the Caribbean, with representatives Danielle Weekes, Business Development Manager – Northeast, and Drunisha Hanley, Caribbean Sales & Events Officer, engaging with travel advisors to provide insight into St. Kitts’ tourism product, experiences, and opportunities available to the travel trade.
The host island utilised the event to promote its St. Kitts Destination Specialist Programme and SKY Programme, thereby directly expanding advisors’ portfolios.
The summit’s value lies in its ability to turn travel sellers into authentic ambassadors by immersing them in local culture, history, and landscapes, including iconic attractions like the St. Kitts Scenic Railway and the UNESCO World Heritage Site at Brimstone Hill.
Throughout the summit, participants engaged in business sessions, hotel inspections, and networking events designed to strengthen relationships between Caribbean destinations and the international travel trade.
Minister Henderson reportedly emphasised that while many travellers believe they have seen the Caribbean, St. Kitts and Nevis offers a distinctive, authentic experience that satisfies the modern traveller’s desire for meaningful connection and “unspoiled” beauty.
By hosting these influential professionals, the Federation aims to ensure that when clients seek a memorable Caribbean escape, St. Kitts and Nevis is the first recommendation they receive.
