SLU: Fedee calls for Francis’ resignation as Speaker of the House

by Sharefil Gaillard (Loop News) The United Workers Party has once again called for the resignation of Speaker of the House of Assembly, Claudius Francis, after Party Leader and MP for Micoud South, Hon Allen Chastanet, was suspended from the Parliament on Tuesday.

Chastanet was suspended after refusing to withdraw statements relating to a land deal involving the National Housing Corporation and allegations of corruption on the part of Housing Minister Richard Frederick and the Government concerning the sale.

The Opposition Leader, for his part, has doubled down on his claims and is maintaining his position, refusing to issue an apology.

The Opposition Senators boycotted Thursday’s Senate Sitting in solidarity with their Leader.

During a Press Conference earlier today, Opposition Senator Dominic Fedee called for the resignation of Francis, declaring that he has failed to be objective in the execution of his duties.

“You have shown on more than one occasion that you lack the ability to be objective,” Fedee declared, noting that Francis has served in a senior position of the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) and has been an advocate for its political aspirations.
