Basseterre, St. Kitts (WINN)-The Social Security Board grants $250,000 in food vouchers to qualifying individuals, approved by the National Management Agency and the Department of Social Service.
Valued at EC$200 each, they are to be distributed by the RAMS and Horsford Valu Mart supermarkets, who have provided at least 20 percent of the vouchers and have put measures in place to facilitate the operation, according to a press release from the Social Security Board.
” The Social Security Board appreciates the response from both
supermarkets and their willingness to partner in this meaningful
exercise, ” the Board said.
“We take this opportunity to encourage other corporate citizens to
contribute in whatever way they can to support our citizens during this
difficult time.
The Board implores the general public also to adhere to the established
protocols, including the use of non-pharmaceutical measures and
inoculation to keep us all healthy and safe.”
The Social Security Board said the recent outbreak of the coronavirus has caused many to experience hardship, and the vouchers were a part of its “social, corporate response.
At least 1300 people will benefit from the initiative, the Board said.
