At the 20th Caribbean Week of Agriculture on Wednesday in Jamaica, the spotlight turned to the people at the heart of the Caribbean’s fisheries sector – its fishers.
The Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism, a CARICOM institution, partnered with Jamaica’s National Fisheries Authority to host a Fisheries and Aquaculture Forum and a special awards ceremony recognising the contribution and resilience of local fishers. Six Jamaicans received Heroes of the Blue Economy Awards for their roles in advancing the country’s food security.
Earlier in the day, an interactive session explored ways to unlock private-sector partnerships and expand investment in agriculture and fisheries.
