St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN)—In an unequivocal show of solidarity with its long-standing diplomatic partner, the Republic of China (Taiwan), the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis issued a statement on April 10, 2025, expressing profound concern over the escalating tensions in the Taiwan Strait.
This announcement comes amidst increased military maneuvers by China, which has reaffirmed its claim over Taiwan, a self-governing island that Beijing views as a breakaway province.
As tensions simmer in the region, St. Kitts and Nevis emphasises its commitment to self-determination and peaceful conflict resolution.
This underlines the belief that no nation, regardless of size or geopolitical clout, should be subjected to coercion or intimidation.
The statement articulates a staunch support for Taiwan’s right to be acknowledged as a sovereign entity, reflecting the aspirations of its 23 million citizens.
The government of the Caribbean nation asserted, “We voice our strong support for the Government and People of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to engage with the international community as a recognised sovereign state, with all the rights and responsibilities that such recognition entails.”
This sentiment resonates with emerging alliances across the Caribbean region, where nations enjoy significant diplomatic ties with Taiwan and have previously decried China’s aggressive posture in the strait.
In its statement, St. Kitts and Nevis reiterated the importance of Sustainable Development Goal 16, which promotes peace, justice, and the establishment of strong institutions globally.
The government believes that global stability and fairness rest on the foundation of mutual respect and adherence to international law, including the provisions of the UN Charter.
The assertion highlights the ideological commitment of St. Kitts and Nevis to advocate for peaceful coexistence among nations.
Moreover, the safety and welfare of St. Kitts and Nevis citizens pursuing education and professional opportunities in Taiwan were central to the government’s discourse.
“We firmly believe that it is only within an atmosphere of sustained peace and stability that our citizens… will flourish, contribute meaningfully to their host society,” the statement read.

The government affirmed, “We advocate for the peaceful recognition of their inherent sovereign rights,” urging restraint and peaceful means of addressing the ongoing situation.
