St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Local franchise, St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots suffered two consecutive defeats in their August 15 and August 17 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) matches, but despite their losses, the players were praised for their determination and fighting spirit on the field.
In the August 17 match against the Trinbago Knight Riders, who batted first and set a mammoth target of 232, the Patriots fell short by 12 runs, achieving 219 runs with seven wickets down. Although the opposing side secured victory, the Patriots’ comeback effort was noted as one of the highlights of the match.
Moreover, the chase of 232 was recorded as the second-highest chase in CPL’s history. Patriots Skipper Jason Holder led from the front with the bat, scoring 44 from 22 balls. He also marked his 100th wicket in the CPL.
Up front with the bat, Kyle Mayers and Andre Fletcher posted an 80-run partnership in under eight overs, but the rhythm of the chase was affected when their partnership was broken.
A statement on the team’s social media page says, “Not the result we wanted, but plenty of heart- 219 in reply to 231, we kept the chase alive all the way. The fight continues. We will come back stronger.”
Meanwhile, Captain Holder continue to express confidence in his team’s potential and abilities. He believes that once the team assess its game executions, works on consistency, and keeps the team spirit alive, the victories will come.
The Patriots remain determined to turn fighting efforts into victories that the Patriots fans and supporters can celebrate.
However, the Trinbago Knight Riders not only celebrated its win as a team, but also Colin Munro’s century. He smashed 120 off 57 balls, hitting 14 fours and six sixes, which paved the way for his team’s 12-run victory over the Patriots.
