St. Kitts and Nevis records 38th COVID-19 death

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): St.Kitts and Nevis has recorded its 38th death due to complications related to the COVID-19 virus.

The latest COVID-19 situation report confirmed 38 persons have died due to COVID-19 complications; 32 in St. Kitts and six in Nevis.

WINN FM News spoke briefly with Dr. Cameron Wilkinson who confirmed that the 38th COVID-19 death occurred in St.Kitts over the weekend.

The Situation report also states that, a total of 5,476 cases have been confirmed in the Federation; 4,647 in St.Kitts and 829 in Nevis. 5,247 cases have been recovered, since April 2020.

The total number of active cases to date is 191;162 in St.Kitts and 29 in Nevis.

Meanwhile, the vaccination campaign continues. As at September 1 2021, 18.1 percent of children between the ages of 12 and 17 have been vaccinated with a first dose of the Pfizer BioNtech vaccine, whilst 16.1 percent have received a second dose.

In contrast, 82.7 percent of adults in the Federation have received a first dose of an approved COVID-19 vaccine, 76. 8 percent received a second dose, whilst 8.7 percent or 2,862 persons have received a booster shot.

A total of 26,141 persons in St.Kitts and Nevis are fully vaccinated.

The Ministry of Health continues to encourage individuals to get vaccinated, considering that the new Omicron sub-variant is more transmissible than the original strain.
