St Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The Tokyo Olympic Games are scheduled to begin July 23, 2021, and the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis will be in attendance.
This year’s Games has triggered concerns of the fifth wave of COVID-19 infections in Japan which has recorded close to 15,000 deaths and more than 800,000 cases as of late June.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has decided to press ahead with the event, banking on strict COVID-19 protocols avoiding further contagion during this pandemic.
A Japanese newspaper reported Sunday (June 27) that Japan plans to ask Olympic athletes from India and five other countries hit hard by the highly infectious Delta variant of the coronavirus to have daily virus tests for seven days before leaving for the Games.
All overseas athletes are being asked to have coronavirus tests twice during the four-day period before their departure for the Tokyo Olympics.
