St. Kitts Music Festival Committee issues traffic management plan

By Devonne Cornelius

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The St. Kitts Music Festival kicks off tonight at 7 at the Kim Collins Athletic Stadium in Bird Rock, St. Kitts, after a two-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The St. Kitts Music Festival Committee is reminding patrons of the traffic management plan for this year’s festival.

The traffic will flow in one direction along the streets around the stadium, except Bird Rock road, where traffic will be permitted to flow in both directions. Only emergency vehicles and vehicles transporting artistes and performers will be permitted along the road immediately east of the stadium. General traffic will use the next street up.

People who are only dropping off patrons will be allowed to do so by the space below KFC. No dropping off will be permitted beyond this point. Drivers will then turn right to continue on their journey back into town. Only shuttle buses, taxis, public service vehicles and those with car passes for the stadium will be allowed to travel past KFC.

On-street parking, especially on Bird Rock Road will not be allowed. Two main public parking sites are:

i  The Paddock (Playfield next to Tucker Clarke Primary School)

ii  Port Zante (Eastern side opposite Sands Complex)

Free Shuttle Service will be provided from 6 p.m. at 10 – 15 minute intervals to transport patrons nightly from these two parking sites to the Kim Collins Stadium. Parking in the stadium is for people with appropriate car passes.

A portion of the road leading to the Port Authority will be reserved for public service vehicles only. Traffic signs will be positioned to indicate road closures and parking restrictions. Traffic Wardens and Police Officers will be present to ensure parking is orderly and to enforce restrictions.

A towing service will also be on hand to assist in keeping the roads free of parking.
