The St Kitts-Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce (SKNCIC) notes with profound sadness the passing of the Honourable Vance Amory, former Premier of Nevis and Senior Member of Parliament in the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis. Amory served Nevis as Premier for two terms in the office – between 1992 and 2006 and 2013 and 2017.
SKNCIC extends our deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Honourable Vance Amory was quiet and thoughtful, yet he enjoyed bringing people together, using his storytelling approach to find mutual interests, he was determined and diligent in achieving his vision of bringing government, civil society, and the private sector together around our common interests.
Amory wore many hats in addition to his political prowess, as a sportsman in cricket, an athlete, a banker, and an educator, he also worked with successive SKNCIC Board of Directors on behalf of the people in the Federation and in the advancement of economic and social development.
In recent years, Amory collaborated with the SKNCIC on CSME matters relating to the free movement of skilled workers in the region, to accelerate economic activities in key sectors such as agriculture, construction, and manufacturing. Similarly, in 2021 he was assigned by the PM to lead the discussion on the Employee Productivity Review in the Public Sector and sought our views on this challenge and how the Private Sector could be a part of the improvement process.
Honourable Vance Amory was the epitome of Nevisian and Kittitian hospitality and an absolute gentleman.
May his soul rest in peace.
